Adrienne Brandyburg
Chicago’s Comic
Week of April 8th, 2018
Meet Chicago’s own comedian to watch—Adrienne Brandyburg.
Q: What inspired you to start stand-up comedy?
A: I inspired myself to begin comedy. The world motivated me into finding my truth. I chose to live my life for me and not for what I thought others wanted me to do.
Q: Describe your first performance?
A: My first performance was surrounded by friends and family at a small dive bar. I yelled and complained for 5 mins. It was terrible, yet I felt like I was heading in a direction where I could make it my own.
Q: Do you have “pre-show” rituals? If so, what are they?
A: If there is a mirror around I stare at myself and give myself positive affirmations. Right before I go up I say “Fuck it” to myself a few times.
Q: Where in the world is your favorite place to perform stand up? Why is this your favorite place?
A: I like to perform in places where my face isn’t as common. I believe my purpose is to share my experience to many who may have a different idea of where I’m from.
Q: What shows, podcasts, blogs do you produce or co-produce?
A: I co-produce a monthly variety show highlighting women of color called “BAPS Comedy”. I co produce a monthly in your face storytelling show called “How’d We Get Here?” I also co-produce a weekly podcast called “Dude, that’s not what I meant”
Q: What are three of your favorite things?
A: My three favorite things are my tweezers, my Sephora membership card and my bed
Q: What is your favorite sammich?
A: Peanut butter and Honey
Q: What’s one thing people assume about you, that is or isn’t true?
A: People assume I have a man. HAHAHAHA
Q: If you weren’t a comic, what other job would you love to do?
A: I would love to be an esthetician. I’m obsessed with skin.
Q: What are some comedy goals/dreams you have on your To Do List?
A: I want to travel the world performing comedy, star in a sitcom, act in a feature film, hug Oprah.
Q: What quality, trait, and/or body part do you really like about yourself?
A: I really enjoy my willingness to forgive. I love my crooked smile and my one of kind laugh.
Q: What’s one thing you wish more people knew about you?
A: I wish more people knew I genuinely root for them and I am a great listener.
Q: How will you know you “Made It?”
A: I know when I “made it” when I can afford new teeth.
