Q: What inspired you to start stand-up comedy?
A: My inspiration to actually do stand-up comedy were some of my college friends. For years, they would tell me I’m funny and I should get on stage. So basically, I did stand-up to shut they ass up.
Q: Describe your first performance.
A: My first performance was nerve-racking but okay. I said if I bombed, I would never do comedy again. Thankfully, I didn’t. This open mic had about 35+ comedians and I had to be 34. I was so nervous, legs shaking, moving the brim of my hat to block the spot-light. Didn’t know that light was so damn bright. Longest 3 minutes of my life but I realized this is what I want to do.
Q: Do you have “pre-show” rituals? If so, what are they?
A: Right before I go on stage, I stand in the corner alone and rap the lyrics to “Back Dat Azz Up” because that was the song that was being played when this lady threw her drawls on stage at me one time and I like to try and get that same energy every time I hit the stage.
Nah, I’m just playing. I don’t have any pre-show rituals.
Q: Where in the world is your favorite place to perform stand-up? Why is this your favorite place?
A: Southside of Chicago. No better feeling than having a gangsta walk up to you after the show and say, “On my Momma you funny as hell boa.”
Q: What shows, podcasts, blogs do you produce or co-produce?
A: Go Hard Comedy at Laugh Factory.
Q: What are three of your favorite things?
A: 1. Oreos and milk (we need healthier Oreos). 2. Roller coasters. 3. Kisses from my lady.
Q: What is your favorite sammich?
A: Turkey with honey mustard.
Q: What’s one thing people assume about you, that is or isn’t true?
A: For some reason, people always assume I sell weed. This may or may not be true.
Q: If you weren’t a comic, what other job would you love to do?
A: I would love to be an owner of a pro sports team. Probably the Bears so I can sign Kaepernick.
Q: What are some comedy goals/dreams you have on your To Do List?
A: 1. Finish all these scripts and sketches and bring them to life. 2. Get invited to Just For Laughs Festival next year. 3. Write for television.
Q: What quality, trait and/or body part do you really like about yourself?
A: I love that I can fall sleep anywhere. It’s a talent.
Q: What’s one thing you wish more people knew about you? [or anything else you’d like mentioned, i.e. your education, personal life or mission statement]
A: Dealing with severe vision loss is an everyday challenge but I just make that shit look easy.
Q: How will you know you “Made It?”
A: I will know I made it when Will Smith has my phone number.
