Chicago’s Comic: Mike Geeter

Q: What inspired you to start stand-up comedy?

A: My 16 siblings. We all loved to laugh. And entertaining them helped sharpen my sense of humor. Now I love sharing that humor with those that truly need it.

Q: Describe your first performance.

A: It was for a contest and in front of 200 people. I wasn’t nervous, just crazy excited. I went on to the next round, so that gave me all the confidence in the world.

Q: Do you have “pre-show” rituals? If so, what are they?

A: I generally get quiet, say a little prayer to my Mumma, Pops, Grandmumma, and sister. Then it’s on!

Q: Where in the world is your favorite place to perform stand-up? Why is this your favorite place?

A: Mark Ridley’s Comedy Castle in Royal Oak, MI. I get super amped to perform there. Something comes over me when I open that wooden door and step out onto that stage. It’s a crazy, powerful feeling.

Q: What shows, podcasts, blogs do you produce or co-produce?

A: I produce a few comedy events in Southeastern Michigan.

Q: What are three of your favorite things?

A: A baby’s laugh, pecan pie, and spending time with my kids… not in that order. LOL.

Q: What is your favorite sammich?

A: Grilled cheese all day!

Q: What’s one thing people assume about you, that is or isn’t true?

A: That I’m a nice guy and I am. My dimples makes me less scary to adults and my being big and bald makes me look like Chocolate Shrek to little kids. Even with my deep voice, I’m not really scaring anyone.

Q: If you weren’t a comic, what other job would you love to do?

A: Sports announcer or chef. I love sports and can cook my tail off!

Q: What are some comedy goals/dreams you have on your To Do List?

A: I would really love to travel the world telling jokes. Would truly love to perform at the O2 in London and MSG.

Q: What quality, trait and/or body part do you really like about yourself?

A: My smile. It’s my calling card and I get big compliments on it, so I just do it a lot. Told you I was a nice guy.

Q: What’s one thing you wish more people knew about you? [or anything else you’d like mentioned, i.e. your education, personal life or mission statement]

A: That I’m not just funny, I’m a smart guy. Attended Cornell University. Didn’t graduate from there but I got in.

Q: How will you know you “Made It?”

A: When I’m in movies, on TV often, and able to provide great opportunities for others pursuing their comedy dream. I want to be Kevin Hart 2.0.
