Q: What inspired you to start stand-up comedy?
A: Two of my friends had me go to an open mic and I grudgingly went to shut them up. I always enjoyed making people laugh but never thought I would get hooked on performing.
Q: Describe your first performance.
A: I had 5 minutes in front of about 25 strangers and ended up making all of them laugh. It was surreal and a lot of fun to see people smiling because of what I was talking about.
Q: Do you have “pre-show” rituals? If so, what are they?
A: Normally, I listen to music on my own to get amped up for shows. I do this in order to get focused for my set.
Q: Where in the world is your favorite place to perform stand-up? Why is this your favorite place?
A: I love performing everywhere but my absolute favorite is in Mill Valley, CA and it’s called the Throckmorton Theatre. Beautiful vintage venue with 2 tier seating. It’s my favorite because there is always a packed house for the shows and famous comics always pop in to watch the shows.
Q: What shows, podcasts, blogs do you produce or co-produce?
A: I normally do private comedy shows every few months that are more word of mouth. It’s great since it’s an intimate venue and you really get to connect and interact with the audience.
Q: What are three of your favorite things?
A: Star Wars, Playing Dominos and Blackjack
Q: What is your favorite sammich?
A: Turkey, cheese, hot peppers, lettuce, grilled onion, light mayo.
Q: What’s one thing people assume about you, that is or isn’t true?
A: I used to hear I wasn’t friendly since I didn’t talk to other comics at shows but really I just wasn’t comfortable chatting until after my set. I think after so many years people now know I’m a pretty friendly dude.
Q: If you weren’t a comic, what other job would you love to do?
Q: What are some comedy goals/dreams you have on your To Do List?
A: I really just want to enjoy what I do onstage and be able to make a profit on it so I can pay bills and save for the future. I love traveling and also being able to make people of all cultures laugh.
Q: What quality, trait and/or body part do you really like about yourself?
A: I think my tattoos are my favorite. They all have meaning to them after all these years.
Q: What’s one thing you wish more people knew about you? [or any-thing else you’d like mentioned, i.e. your education, personal life or mission statement]
A: I’m a pretty low key person and a definite creature of habit. I have my favorite places for food, drinks and hanging out. I don’t branch out too often because I’m the type of person where as soon as I know what I like on the menu, I will always order it. I was born and raised in Humboldt Park, and now when I perform I make it a point to let the crowd know I’m Puerto Rican. It gives me a sense of pride to celebrate my culture in front of those who don’t think about where they come from.
Q: How will you know you “Made It?”
A: When I realize as an old man I’m still performing and loving what I do.
